Detailed Description:
This elegant vintage Japanese hand mirror set is a refined example of traditional Japanese lacquerware aesthetics inspired by Yamanaka Shikki (山中漆器), one of Japan’s most respected lacquerware traditions originating from Ishikawa Prefecture. Combining practical function with decorative artistry, the set includes a beautifully ornamented handheld mirror and matching folding display stand.
The front of the mirror features richly detailed floral decoration executed in a traditional makie-inspired style. Large blooming peonies (botan), plum blossoms (ume), and stylized foliage are arranged across a deep glossy black background accented with intricate gold geometric patterns. In Japanese art, peonies symbolize prosperity, elegance, and feminine beauty, while plum blossoms are associated with resilience, refinement, and the arrival of spring.
